Degree Requirements | BA in Communications

The BA in Communications is designed using insights of from workforce and industry leaders on what communications skills today’s people-oriented professionals must possess. Concentrations are available in Business and Healthcare.

To earn a BA in Communications at SNHU, you need to complete a total of 120 credits, which includes a combination of general education courses, major-specific coursework, and electives.

Program Learning Outcomes

Communicate Effectively in Multiple Modes:
Students will be able to effectively deliver clear, well-crafted messages in verbal, written, and visual forms; and adapt messages to different audiences, platforms, and contexts. 

Apply Communication Theory and Concepts:
Students will possess a theoretical and applied understanding of major theories in communication and how they inform real-world communication practice; and analyze the role of communication in global, cultural, organizational, and media settings.

Design Strategic and Ethical Communication:
Students will be able to plan, execute, and evaluate communication strategies, including campaigns (e.g. public relations or media campaigns), and make ethical decisions in communication involving stakeholder relations, public trust, and cultural sensitivity.

Use Technology and New Media Tools:
Students will be able to employ digital tools, design principles, and new media platforms to create content, as well as leveraging social media, visual design, multimedia to communicate effectively.

Critically Analyze Messages and Audience Needs: Students will be able to perform research and audience analysis to understand how messages are received and interpreted, as well as evaluate the impact or effectiveness of communication efforts and modify them accordingly.

Collaborate and Lead in Diverse Contexts: Students will be able to work in teams, contribute interpersonal skills, and manage stakeholders. They will have the ability to demonstrate intercultural awareness and adapt communication across cultural contexts.
